Zombie

Check this out. Base model in Max, detail in Zbrush. The 2nd pic shows what I've been banging on about - low poly game version for animation, high detail zbrush over the top, and wrap that on with displacement maps.

The next page has the zombie head textured but this guy is much a much better modeler than texturer.

Master and Servant

They have these cool challenges at CGtalk, here is a link to the entries for the latest one. If you have time to kill browse thru some of the other challenges too, Machine flesh and Alien Environment or whatever it was called have some insanely cool entries.

My favourite Master and Servant entry is on page 2, can you guess which one?

Are you a hard motherfucker of a geek?

Yeah, really? How hard?

You guys might know about this strip I just stumbled across on CHUD.com (I go there for the comic reviews because I am a fucking dork.) It the strip any good? I don't know, but even if it takes you 15 minutes to decide it sucks, you still owe me thanks for getting 15 minutes closer to knock-off time.

A TML favourite is back in force I've listened to about 35 seconds of Niles 'Annililation of the Wicked' on MP3 & it has to be one of the most brutal things I think I've ever heard. It makes their brilliant debut LP 'Amongst the Catacombs of Nephran Ka' sound like Horus which we all know was the gayest egyptian god.

I mean seriously, he was a fucking owl?

JOJO'S BIZARRE ADVENTURE

The link from the title takes you to a scanlation site where you can directly download, or just copy them from me when you see me.

I am hopelessly addicted to this bizarre and epic manga, recommended by a GANTZ fansite. It's kind of like the old wierd and awesome black and white Slaine series from 2000AD, but with even stranger not-quite-right artwork and a whole order of radness better story gore and oddness. The art put me off a little initially, but now I'm hooked and even gotten to the stage where I'm enjoying the perspective fuck-ups and trying to work out is that meant to be Jojo's head in the corner of that panel, or a mashed cheese stick? This dude has not let a lack of "correct" drawing ability stop him from creating the most insanely cool manga I'm aware of existing. It looks like someone bombed on hash trying to draw Streetfighter characters with an occult bent.

There are anime based on it apparently, but I dont see how they could come close to the manga. There was also a PS, Dreamcast and PS2 games apparently. There are like 8 volumes of this shit or something, so it should keep me going a while. I'm sucking them down like crazy because I think it's been licenced to Viz so might start to evaporate from the scanlation sites.

FAQ site - warning, apparently has spoilers.

Banksy, he's smarter than you

This guy's been getting heaps of props in the last few years, but thats mainly cause he's fucking clever & fuckin' ballsy.

His latest piece however is sheer gold.

Also take the time to click through his site, then walk around Smith St & see if you can find the shit he bombed here 18 months back

DO IT CUNT!

Any excuse eh...

...there's more, just click on the dork.

Mod character ideas

What about a giant bug?
Look HERE at bugs.
We could do a big monster bug, and texture it like electron microscope footage. It could have arms and weapons.

It would be a great opportunity to play with displacement mapping, you could make it stupid-detailed and rip that to a lower poly model. Little hair and bumps and eyes all over the place. Like a big fly-man with tiny wings that help him do long jumps. Huge lumpy upper body, long hairy stick legs. Ewww.

Personalised Google Love

I know, I know. It's on pretty much every news site etc, but I do find the Personalised Google Homepage very exciting and convenient.

Yay.

Indie Games:

Game Tunnel seems to do a pretty good job of promoting some pretty funky independent games, at least they link you up to fuckloads of demos and share/freeware to pass the time.

All in all a wonderful timewaster of a site with fun stuff and plenty of good ideas.

Resident Evil: Apocalypse

What the fuck?

I have heard rumours in the past that from time to time movie companies intentionally produce shit films in order to claim tax write-offs, or something like that. However, I cannot see how any actor, director, or directors-nephew-who's-been-given-a-shot-at-hollywood could knowingly put there name to something as bad as this film.
They managed to get Milla back for round two, along with some kinda cute Lara Croft wannabe. Then they handed the filming of the movie over to someone who's OBVIOUSLY a film-student trying to squeeze in every text-book directors trick they've studied and blew some cash on CG and costumes that my Mum could do a better job making.
The end result is almost similar to John's 'Escape from...' masterpieces simply because they all look budget, except this film is a bucket of rotten fucking donkey nuts.
Some actors cannot act, that's a given and we see it every day. Some sets look cheap, fair enough. But when every shot in a a film is either a still, or filmed from behind a grate or chickenwire fence (yep, I'm serious) I'm just cannot tell if it was done intentionally as a joke or if the guy's got hemorroids of the retina.
I concede the above is not entirely true, during fight scenes the camera is shaken around a bit, though it never keeps the actual fighting in-frame and often points AWAY from the actors.

One line summary: A marine shoots a zombified dog and says 'Stay'... It wasn't Arnie.

Film yourself shitting and watch that before you rent this movie.

Dirk Gentleys Holistic Detective Agency

Back on Deck

What do I do again, when do I eat & what time do people get up in the morning's.. It's 5am & my body tells me thats all the sleep I'm getting tonite (not too bad considering I crashed at about 5pm), I've been back on Aussie soil for 24 hours, most of which was spent in a Bill Murray-esque from Groundhog Day haze.

Europe was awesome, for the most part very chilled out but very expensive, I have officially now paid up to $10aud for a bottle of coke without realising it. But if you want cheap beer Germany & Eastern Europe is a must, you cant pay more than about 35c for a 1/2 litre stein of beer ALL DAY LONG, fantastic.

I don't really have any photo's handy yet but seeing we have about 2000 images burnt to cd's there will be many a yawn coming from all involved when we start slide show evenings. The best thing about Europe & the UK, cheap dodgy classic metal tshirts, I should have got so many more but the luggage was getting out of control so I had to settle for an Iron Maiden (from Prague) a Motorhead (from Barcelona) a Misfits (from the UK) & possibly another I've forgotten about. That combined with 4 litres of duty free booze means that this is a trip that will continue to live on for weeks.
