PSP users rejoice

Whether or not you guys care, and though it has not impact on me at this time, there is some exciting news regarding PSP firmware revisions.

Originally PSPs were released with firmware that allowed the running of unsigned code, i.e. homebrew apps, pirated games, things like that. Sony released a new firmware (2.0) that locked this out, just in time for the European release, and older ones became very hard to find.

Amusing things began to happen while people tried to figure out how to downgrade the firmware. One bunch started taking paypal donations, but then pulled the plug and ran off with the cash. The details of this tale are fuzzy but from reports it seems one evil dude fucked it up for the others.

Anyway, you couldn't downgrade the firmware, and some games coming out required that you UPGRADE before you could play them. So Sony were fucking everyone in the pie-hole. But someone figured out that in the image viewer there was an exploit as it loads thumbnails and somehow go it to run code. Thusly you can now downgrade your PSP firmware whenever required.

This is exciting for me, very. I had been meaning to post a bunch of shit about the PSP, links etc, and now is as good a time as any :)

PSP Updates - Daily happiness

Cr4gP4lmers PSP Homebrew Packs - Dude who's bundled homebrew emulator loaders with customised graphics etc, to make it easy for dipshits like me. (i.e. EVERY emulator you can think of up to, and including, the PSOne...)

oopo.net/consoledev and PS2Dev.org - Programming libraries, tutes and so on for the PSP

coolrom.com - ROMs, Mwahahahaha!

There's also a shotload of people pumping out Magazines, Comics, Beatbox Tutes, Pr0n, and other wacky shit that keeps me warm at night.

Go buy one, it'll make you happy.

EDIT: It was that released the downgrader, and are aparrently ex-members of the group that fucked people out of their cash. In any case, I though I should give them credit. And their logo's pretty.
