Forks all round baby
We could do sick 3D rendered versions of wings like those fairly easily. I'd model one feather, give you a UV map template to paint up real nice in Painter, and using a nifty clone plugin driven by weight maps do batch clones several times slightly differently on several layers I can get cloning with control of scale and rotation, and throw in slight jitter and randomness to get it really rad.
The clonage happens across a mesh of points, so to make different shape and style wings you just use different base mesh "outline" to spawn from. Of course the reality will need some tweaking but we'd get great results.
